- Remove excess fondant and store in an airtight container for another use.
- Pour a small amount of blue food coloring into one small bowl and red food coloring into another small bowl.
- Using a small paintbrush or Qtip, paint one side of the fondant shapes red or blue, as desired. Allow shapes to dry, uncovered, for several hours or overnight.
- Bake your favorite 8", two layer cake, then set side to cool completely.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine vanilla frosting with red food coloring to create your desired shade of red.
- Use the spatula or a butter knife to frost the top of one layer of your cake with plain vanilla or red colored frosting, then place the second layer on top and align edges.
- Frost the stacked layers of your cake with red frosting, filling in the seams. Make sure tops and sides are covered evenly and surfaces are smooth.
- Starting in the center or slightly off-center, pipe a small circle of black gel icing as your starting point for the spider web.
- Start at the black circle and pipe lines of black gel icing radiating from the center, across the top of the cake and down the sides.
- Pipe swags of black gel icing between the lines on top of the cake to create a spider web effect.
- Use black gel icing to pipe your child's name, age or other words on to the fondant cut-outs.
- Place cut-outs on top or sides of cake as desired.
- Place Spider Man figurine or cup cake spikes near the center of the spider web to your liking.
- Serve and enjoy!
